Louis Armstrong was born in a poor black family in New Orleans, his father abandonned him so he was raised by his mother and his grand mother (who was born a slave), but because of the fact that he grew up in a difficult neighborhood he multiple times ended up because of his bad behavior and a few acts of deliquancy in a home for abandonned children. This period also signs the birth of Jazz in places where the Afro-american population was very present like Harlem, Chicago or New Orleans.
