So despite some crying at night (and I want to stress you don't have to leave your lo alone to cry) she always woke up happy. I am not and was never a fan of CIO, but realistically, my lo needed to sleep better and I needed to sleep better, and it makes both of us happier when we do so. I've been too tired to spend the time during the night when she wakes up trying to lay her down, but I did it at her first wake up last night and afterward she slept until 4 am which is basically unheard of for her. More important than awake time is watching your child for sleep cues. We also cut the paci cold turkey and she didn't miss it a bit.įast forward to now, at 9 months, and we have to do it all over again because she can now stand in her crib and can't lay herself back down. This new awake time will start when you take baby out of their crib. Once she was able to fall asleep on her own she slept much better. We did sleep sense, and I stayed by her side the whole time. You can create this routine by trying out various calming activities, like reading a book or singing a song, then sticking with the activities that do the best job at settling both you and baby – because hey, you also deserve some relaxation! The major shifts in their sleep habits will be that they’re sleeping for longer periods during the day and night. Now is the time to create a sleep schedule and make sure everyone in your baby’s life honors this sleep schedule. So if they haven’t started solids yet, now is the time to start. If you’re wondering when your baby can start eating solids, The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends baby only consume breast milk, or formula, for the first 4-6 months. If you’re uncertain about the amount of milk your baby is receiving in each feeding, you can check the amount of milk you produce while pumping. For exclusively breastfed babies, you can ensure they’re receiving enough by feeding them at least 5 times a day for 15-20 minutes.

And, this full night of sleep should also be occurring with few nighttime feedings. A full night of sleep, which consists of 11-12 hours of sleep for a baby this age, should now be the norm.
